To enhance global academic collaboration, Hwa Nan Women’s College invited a delegation of seven students and faculty members from Sacred Hearts Academy in Hawaii, USA, for a nine-day visit from October 11 to October 19, 2017.

The visiting students, high school girls from Sacred Hearts Academy, were full of energy and enthusiasm. They quickly bonded with their Hwa Nan peers through a student pairing program, engaging in various cultural and social activities organized by the college. This exchange provided them with a firsthand experience of China’s rich cultural heritage.

Experiencing the Differences in Educational Systems

To gain deeper insights into the differences between Chinese and American education, the Sacred Hearts students immersed themselves in the Chinese school environment, exploring the classroom atmosphere and campus culture firsthand.

Exploring China’s History, Culture, and Daily Life

During their visit, the students participated in a range of activities to understand Chinese history, education, and social life, including:

• Visiting Wanfo Temple, an important Buddhist site.

• Exploring Fuqing No. 2 High School and Longtian Central Primary School, where they interacted with local students and faculty.

• Staying at Liyuzhou Hotel and Hwa Nan dormitories, allowing them to experience both urban and campus life in China.

• Engaging in discussions with Hwa Nan faculty and students, fostering deep conversations on education and culture.

Strengthening the Bond Between Schools

This cultural and academic exchange program not only deepened the friendship between Sacred Hearts Academy and Hwa Nan Women’s College but also provided valuable learning opportunities for both sides.

Through this visit, Sacred Hearts students gained a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture, while Hwa Nan students had the chance to practice English and broaden their global perspectives. This visit reinforced the strong ties between the two schools, paving the way for continued collaboration and friendship in the years to come.
