To enhance academic and cultural exchange between our institutions, Hwa Nan Women’s College invited a delegation of 10 students and faculty members from Sacred Hearts Academy in Hawaii, USA, for a 10-day visit from October 8 to October 18, 2018.

The visiting students, high school girls from Sacred Hearts Academy, were full of energy and enthusiasm. They quickly bonded with their peers at Hwa Nan, forming student pairings and participating in a series of interactive and engaging activities organized by the college. Through these experiences, they gained a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture and its unique charm.

Exploring China’s Rich Cultural and Historical Heritage

During their stay, the students had the opportunity to visit several significant cultural and historical sites, including:

• Hwa Nan’s historic old campus

• Yu Mountain (Yushan), Wu Mountain (Wushan), and Gu Mountain (Gushan)

• Fujian Provincial Museum and Panda World

• Quanzhou, Pingtan, and Fuqing

Through these visits, the students gained firsthand insight into China’s history, culture, education system, and daily life. They also engaged in discussion forums with faculty and students at Hwa Nan, further deepening mutual understanding and strengthening the friendship between the two schools.

A Meaningful and Lasting Friendship

Although the exchange program lasted only ten days, the bonds formed between the students and teachers of both schools were profound. This experience not only improved the English-speaking skills of Hwa Nan students but also broadened their perspectives, fostering greater global awareness.

This visit has infused new energy and vitality into the long-standing friendship between Hwa Nan Women’s College and Sacred Hearts Academy, reinforcing the importance of cross-cultural communication and academic collaboration.
